Take advantage of New England's proximity to New York City with this two-day historical tour through Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts! From New York City, you’ll head northeast, past Yale University, the mansions of Newport and the dunes of Cape Cod on your way to Boston, which you’ll explore on Day 2. Sites of interest include the Breakers (former home of the Vanderbilt family), the Kennedy Compound, the ‘Mayflower II,’ the Freedom Trail, Boston Common and Harvard University. Depart in the morning for New Haven, Connecticut, home of the prestigious Yale University. Among many well-known doctors, lawyers and business owners, Yale’s alumni include US presidents, senators and celebrities. Next, head to Newport, Rhode Island, historically a mecca for the East Coast’s elite and the birthplace of the world-famous America’s Cup yacht race. Cruise along the coastal road dotted with impressive mansions before stopping at the most impressive of them all – the Breakers, a 70-room estate built by the Vanderbilt family.
From Newport, make the 1.5-hour trip to Hyannis, Massachusetts, in the middle of the Cape Cod peninsula and known as the home to the Kennedy family compound. Visit the John F Kennedy Memorial and Museum and discover the history of one of America’s best-known families. Afterward, head to the Cape Cod Maritime Museum for a more in-depth look at the area’s prominence in American history.

Head north to Plymouth to see the Mayflower II, a replica of the famous Mayflower. Then visit Plymouth Rock, the site where the pilgrims disembarked the Mayflower and began their new life in New England. From Plymouth, enjoy the short drive to Boston, where you’ll spend much of your day tracing the route of the Freedom Trail and exploring Boston Common.
After lunch at Quincy Market (own expense), head across the Charles River to Cambridge, to explore Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Following the drive back to New York City, your overnight tour ends at Grand Central Station in the evening.
