This classical music concert in the Royal Chapel of the Palace of Versailles re-creates a service that was held in Florence Cathedral in the 17th century to mark the Feast of Saint John. Listen to the elaborate Baroque music written by Italian composers Striggio, Monteverdi and Benevoli. This is a truly rare experience, as the concert is performed just once a year.
Arrive at the Palace of Versailles approximately an hour before the concert starts to have time to explore the incredible palace at your leisure. When you exchange your voucher at the palace entrance, you’ll be given directions to the Royal Chapel of Versailles, where the one-hour concert takes place.
The Royal Chapel was the fifth chapel to be built within the palace. With a fascinating history dating back to King Louis XIV's reign, the chapel is a perfect setting for this memorable concert.
The concert's conductor, Hervé Niquet, will highlight the beautiful architecture of the Royal Chapel through the music, using the venue as a vertical sound space. Each choir that performs will be accompanied by its own group of instruments.
